Top tips for red carpet-worthy glowing skin

As we all know, and as demonstrated this week on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, luminous, dewy skin never goes out of style.

We also know that maintaining radiance isn’t always easy, and the reality is there can be many reasons your skin is missing that so-called glow. Our skin constantly sheds dead cells, but if the process isn’t working efficiently, your complexion can take on a dull, unhealthy, tired appearance that emphasises wrinkles and dark circles.

The good news? There are simple ways to get back your healthy glow. The little things really can make a huge difference when it comes to your complexion. If you feel like you’ve lost your glow, follow our Spa Manager Una O’Grady top tops for glowing skin below and prepare for radiantly beaming A-lister skin.

Drink Plenty of Water

Dehydration may seem like a short-term problem solved by a glass of water, but consistently failing to give your skin the hydration it needs can cause lasting damage, such as fine lines, sagging skin, and even deep wrinkles from severe chronic dehydration.  The solution: drink the recommended 1.2 litres (6-8 glasses) of water each day and watch as that glow begins to appear.

Exfoliate

When we don’t exfoliate our skin, the moisturiser we use cannot penetrate through to the cells we need it to hydrate.  We are left with an oily topical skin and dehydrated skin underneath.  Exfoliating creates a fresh canvas that allows topical products to penetrate better, leaving skin smoother and clearer, reflecting light and positively glowing!

Moisturise

Environment stressors create cracks in our skin’s surface, giving the appearance of dullness.  Moisturizer fills in those fissures with added lipids, the natural fats of the skin, presenting a smooth, reflective surface.

Always apply your moisturizer in gentle, upward strokes to boost blood circulation and stimulate the cells around your face and neck, this will bring oxygen to the surface of your skin, making it look nourished and healthy.

Also, don’t forget to moisturise around the eye area with a special eye cream; the skin around your eyes can be up to 40% thinner than the rest of your skin, so it is so important to use the correct products in this area.

Try to manage stress

This may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but stress plays a large role in the brilliance of your skin…or the lack thereof. Stress causes an increase in cortisol, which can affect blood flow to the skin as well as skin repair.

While we all lead busy lives, stress management is crucial. Take the time to relax, perhaps even enjoy a treatment in the K Spa to completely chill out.

Try to get enough sleep

When you sleep your skin cells repair themselves and regenerate. If that period is shortened or altered, skin cells cannot perform at their optimum.

Try to get seven to nine hours of sleep to stay looking and feeling your best. Night creams are specifically designed to work on cell regeneration so that you wake up dewy and refreshed.

Be aware of your environment

Many factors within your environment could be causing your skin to look dull.  Air pollutants, low humidity, harsh winds, and UV exposure can all really damage unprotected skin.

Always cleanse your face before bed, otherwise, pollutant particles can clog pores while you sleep. Remember, regardless of the weather, don’t forget to shield skin from the sun and pollutants with products containing an SPF.

Eat a healthy diet

Try to stay away from salty and processed foods—they enhance tissue swelling through fluid retention, adding to that dullness.

Good foods to please both your stomach and your skin are antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries, cranberries, good-fat treats like avocados and walnuts, as well as citrus fruits and kiwi, which contain vitamin C, known to boost collagen growth.
