6 Great Places for Families to Visit in Kildare this Summer
The summer holidays are here, and you may be thinking about (or have already booked) your family staycation. Nothing beats a mini break to relax, reconnect and most importantly have fun! Here is a list of 6 places we think families will love this summer…
1. Base Entertainment Centre
Located in Celbridge is Ireland’s newest entertainment centre, Base. Featuring everything from bowling to softplay, an arcade to an Xbox arena, Laser Tag to Indoor Football there is something for everyone, young and old. A great place to go any day, but especially on those wet summer days when you are looking for somewhere to bring the kids… it’s sure to have them begging to go back again soon, whatever the weather!
2. Irish National Stud & Japanese Gardens
Nowhere better symbolises all that is great about County Kildare, the beating heart of Ireland’s thoroughbred industry, than the Irish National Stud. Tour the stud and admire some of the world’s greatest horses, fawn over the foals as they frolic in the paddocks and enjoy a stroll around the magnificent Japanese Gardens. There’s also a Kids Fun Zone and, for the months of July and August, the Irish National Stud are hosting Summer Family Fun Days every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday featuring pony rides, a mobile farm, giant games, face painting and much more….
You might not associate cruises with Kildare, but we can’t recommend highly enough a cruise along the Grand Canal with Ger O’Loughlin of Bargetrip.ie. With a choice of routes ranging from 1hour to 2.5 hours in length, you have a number of options to choose from. Sit back, relax and see Kildare from the water… Your little ones might even end up being skipper at some point along the route!
4. Castletown House
Ireland’s first and largest Palladian style house dates back to the early 18th century and offers a fun day out for all the family. Explore the parklands and river walk. Enjoy the many markets, family fun days and cultural events throughout the summer. Tour the latest art, photographic and cultural exhibitions. The Pleasure Gardens make for the perfect picnic setting. And, of course, don’t forget to visit the Wonderful Barn. Young and old will marvel at the quirky shape of this old grain barn built in the 18th century to provide employment for the poor and to protect the estate’s grain supply from theft.
5. Take a walk on the wild side with a trip to Clonfert Pet Farm
Enjoy a fun-filled family day out with a trip to Clonfert Pet Farm. Your little ones will enjoy getting up close to the animals which include llamas and emus as well as getting to explore the playgrounds, bouncy castles, mini golf, go karts and football pitch. You’ll be guaranteed some sleepyheads that evening!
6. Abbeyfield Farm
Nestled in the beautiful countryside of Clane, Abbeyfield Farm offers a truly magical setting for pony and horse trekking as well as many outdoor activities. Enjoy a fun trek through the quiet country lanes and rolling countryside. While you’re there, you might also like to test your aim on the clay pigeon or air rifles ranges.
And of course, when you’ve visited all the sights and returned to your base at The K Club, there is something for all the family here too. Mam and dad can enjoy some me-time in the K Spa or on one of our championship golf courses, while the K Cubs Kids Club service makes sure your little ones are cared for and entertained with a wide range of activities, including a fairy trail, kids bicycles, fly fishing, a children’s playground, children’s swim times and a kid’s cinema.
