HE has had the rare distinction of having played characters that have been eaten by both a shark and a dinosaur. But yesterday the only thing facing down Samuel L Jackson was a birdie.
The Hollywood star jetted into Ireland earlier this week to help raise funds at a charity event. But before heading to the RTE studios to appear on the 'Late Late Show' last night, he took time out to play on the Ryder Cup golf course at the K Club in Kildare.
And, as our picture by Leon Farrell shows, Boyzone singer Ronan Keating was on hand to give the actor a steer in the right direction. The unassuming star drove his own cart -- under the watchful eye of a security guard.
Playing holes six to nine, he had a handicap of six. And others who were sharing the course with him said he was a "very good player", despite playing with clubs that weren't his own.
Puffing cigars on the course, he borrowed golf clubs and teed off with whoever was playing at the holes. The hard-man of Hollywood is renowned for playing characters whose trademarks are cursing and shooting. But he is showing his softer side this weekend when he helps out at the Night for Love fundraiser in Dublin. He is hosting the red carpet event tonight which will raise funds for both Irish Autism Action and the Samuel L Jackson Foundation, which provides support to a number of charities. The star also took the time earlier this week to visit Richard Corrigan's restaurant, Bentley's at St Stephen's Green, with singer Dionne Warwick. - Edel KennedyIrish IndependentCategory Golf, Category Hotel
